The Free Game with a $100,000 Secret...

A new online adventure game with a $100,000 Secret...created by YOU.

Make alliances, trade with friends, wreak havoc and unlock 10,000 years of secrets.

Walking through the desert you find an ancient book: a gateway to another world – the world of Emodo. Here you meet the Questorian who welcomes you to the first kingdom of Merchantopia. You arrive with nothing but your deep sense of curiosity and the only instruction the Questorian gives you is to find the answers to unlock the orb which floats mysteriously on the desk. The orb is an artefact known as the Vault and once opened it promises to transform your life: not your life in the game, but your real life out here in the real world.
This is when the adventure begins, solving puzzles for rewards. For instance, there are 20 Books of Merchantopia to discover and each of these gives you a special reward and much deeper knowledge of the world of Emodo: knowledge to help you on your Quest. Beyond this there’s the kingdom of Merchantopia and here you will discover the local currency of the Qetoo and how you can earn more from solving puzzles and entering into trades. You also learn that Qetoos are needed to progress in the game. Eventually you will find the Guilds which can either improve your experience of the game or cause you a few problems – especially if you attract the attention of the Guild of Thieves.
Within Merchantopia you will make alliances with people from across the planet, enter into trades and use your Quest Shapers. These are special powers within the game that can be used to magnify your result or create havoc for you or other players.
However it’s the puzzle solving experiences which bring you here and it’s a race against time to solve these puzzles as you aim to become the first person to open the Vault and claim the wonderful prize within. Along the way there will be plenty of mini-games where you can win more Qetoos, Quest Shapers or perhaps real-life prizes. I guess that depends upon how successful we become.
There will be rewards for bringing your friends to Merchantopia. There will be rewards for creating puzzles. This is a game that is both free to play and organic in that it will continue to grow as more people become involved. Our players will tell us what they want and (within reason) we will create it. What’s really cool for our fans on Kickstarter is that we will immortalize you within the game; even if you can only spare a dollar! It’s our reward beyond all others that the people who help launch this game get to be embedded into the game. Now isn’t that a pretty cool idea?

Game designers and artists need to eat so creating a game is always going to cost money. So we decided to make our own fund raising on our web info-site www.riseofemodo.net. We want your energy and enthusiasm too. You can share your ideas for the world of Emodo and help us to achieve more. You can become directly involved in the creative process too. And when the day comes that The Quest is launched to the world: well we’re sure you will be dragging your friends and family into the world of Merchantopia and earning all those lovely bonuses.

We knocked on many doors and asked artists and game designers from across the world to please get involved and help us. At first, conversations tended to work like this:
“Are you from Pixar or Lucasfilm?”
“No.”
“Bye.”
Eventually we started to find some people who were as excited by the concept of The Quest as much as we were and right now Steve Beaumont is handling the first sequence storyboard. Steve has worked on several games including Tomb Raider - Angel of Darkness, Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks, and The Suffering as well as developing storyboards for BBC, Emap Publishing, Johnny Walker, Universal Studios, Unilever and Warner Bros.

We are also mega excited to be working with Jason Godbey an environmental artist from California who worked on the legendary God of War – Ghost of Sparta which redefined PSP games. Jason also worked on NBA2K8 (Xbox360).

Next up from Colorado is Ryan Knope – the Art Director of Lacuna Expanse and we are really pleased to have him on board as we have an entire world to be designed and that’s going to take some time. The opening sequences and cut scenes will more than likely be completed by Lifang-cg. Originally from China, they’ve expanded and have offices in Vancouver.

Original music for the Quest will be composed by Vlado Hudec who really understands the concept of Epic. Whether it's guitars or full orchestras with choirs, he creates masterpieces of energetic or calming music. Finally (for now) we have Jon Mohr handling voiceovers. You hear Jon on the first part of our video. Jon has that distinctive voice that almost everyone has heard somewhere before.
